The School of Government and International Studies is an intense 3rd level University of the Nations course consisting of 3 months lecture phase followed by a possible outreach or internship.
“The basic problem of the Christians in this country in the last eighty years or so, in regard to society and in regard to government, is that they have seen things in bits and pieces instead of totals.”
Francis A. Schaeffer, A Christian Manifesto
“It is better to lead from behind and to put others in front, especially when you celebrate victory when nice things occur. You take the front line when there is danger. Then people will appreciate your leadership.”
Nelson Mandela
“If the gospel is not relevant to the issues of the day, it is not the gospel at all.”
Martin Luther
Frustrated, unsure or confused about government and politics?
Not sure how to respond in a contentious debate on current news?
Afraid of coming across as ignorant or religious on complex issues?
The School of Government and International Studies will help you build a biblical foundation and perspective on government, law, economics, injustice, and international relations. It will equip you with a greater understanding of current events within their historical context and give you the tools to unravel these complex issues.
Through comparative case studies, you will observe how the hegemony of ideas and worldviews of various leaders have influenced the destiny of their nations. How current events have been created and manipulated to suit those in authority and the ensuing result of a nation that has not adhered to biblical foundations or principles.
You will learn to wrestle with interfaith dialogue, conflict resolution, and the influence of political and media rhetoric in the public domain. It will refine your personal calling and equip you to be confident and relevant in the dialogue of the day.
You will be salt and light to a dying world.
Some of the subjects the school will cover are:
- Law, Government, Power, and the art of Diplomacy
- International Relations and Regional Conflicts
- Regional, Social, Political, and Cultural Considerations
- Character studies on various Biblical Leaders
- The United Nations & Courts of Human Rights
A national or international speaker with extensive experience in their fields will introduce each topic.
We aim to participate in various lectures held at the University of Cape Town, the Centre for Conflict Resolution, and other relevant organizations.
